We tested out this Healthy Lactation Cookie recipe by Brittany Mullins. They contain oats, flaxseed, and brewer's yeast to help moms boost their milk supply.
Oats have a high iron content, which is important for breastfeeding mothers as low iron can reduce milk supply. They also contain a fiber called beta-glucan which is thought to stimulate prolactin, a hormone responsible for milk production.
Flaxseed can increase alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, in breastmilk. o,ega-3 fatty acids are important for babies as they're vital for the development of the central nervous system, vision, the heart, cognitive function, and strong immune systems. Flaxseeds could also stimulate milk supply by increasing prolactin due to its high omega-3 content.
Brewer's Yeast contains the B-vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), and H or B7 (biotin). It also contains protein and iron, all essential for lactation. Brewer's yeast can be a bit hard to find in a regular grocery store. This is our favorite on Amazon. Overall the cookies were great and tasted like regular oatmeal cookies. Even if you aren't breastfeeding they're still a good alternative for the health conscious! This recipe is gluten-free, vegan, and packed with nutrients and healthy fat beneficial to anyone. Perfect for a postpartum hotel, health cafe, or vegan bakery.
