Porkey's BBQ is in a little strip mall on the side of the highway with a massage parlor, smoke shop, and gun shop. It's a countertop with no tables or restrooms. We got the 6 oz Beef Brisket Sandwich, 5 oz Pulled Pork Sandwich, Cornbread, Mac and Cheese, and Peach Cobbler. All-in-all everything came to about $30.
The Brisket was thickly cut and the fat on it was rendered melt-in-your-mouth beautifully! The pulled pork was also good. The bread both sandwiches were served on was alright. It was a brioche and it tasted slightly stale. Points off for the bread. The coleslaw was very interesting. I think it was a honey mustard base but very watery, not thick like honey mustard normally is. It was different, but good with the BBQ. The cabbage was cut a little thick though. I personally prefer a more diced coleslaw with BBQ so it bites well if you put it on the sandwich. The two BBQ sauces were pretty classical. One was a thick sweet sauce and one was a vinegar.
The cornbread was very good but it tasted like pound cake with cornmeal in it, so if you prefer a less sweet cornbread, it won't be for you. The mac and cheese tasted like cafeteria mac and cheese. Personally not a fan, but if you enjoy cafeteria mac and cheese, that's what you're getting--something that's been sitting out all day and is mushy. My husband loved it.
The cobbler of the day was peach or blueberry. We went with the peach. It was very good--cinnamon-y, soft, and warm. It was mushy though so if you like your cobbler with a crunch, this wouldn't be for you. It was more like a bread pudding I suppose.
The takeout containers were paper for the sandwiches, everything was places in a biodegradable plastic bag, and the sides and sauces all came in plastic.
Nothing here claimed to be organic, pasture-raised, or grass-fed.
