Schultz's Crab House | Essex, Maryland

Schultz's Crab House

1732 Old Eastern Ave, Essex, MD 21221

We took a trip to Baltimore in September to check out the gigantic Second Chance Inc. warehouse on Ridgely St. It was a beautiful day and we also had time to check out Schultz's Crab House in Essex.

You will find Schultz's Crab House located on the corner of a older suburban neighborhood. Early afternoon Sunday and there was plenty of parking around the building. The thought had occurred that this place might be full on a Sunday after noon. It was not, but as we sat the tables did start to fill around us.

Tucked along Old Eastern Avenue, Schultz’s Crab House is a true Chesapeake Bay classic that’s been serving locals since 1969. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by warm wood tones and a nautical theme that pays homage to Maryland’s maritime roots — the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into a simpler, friendlier time.

We started with the hush puppies, which came with an unexpectedly interesting sauce — a perfect balance of sweet and savory that elevated the dish beyond the traditional. The crab balls were the undeniable star of the meal: crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful inside, packed with fresh crab and just the right seasoning. You can really taste the pride Schultz’s takes in maintaining its reputation for authentic Maryland seafood.

The bar area fits seamlessly into the restaurant’s vintage charm, offering a relaxed space to unwind with a drink while you take in the nautical décor. Between the friendly staff, classic vibe, and top-notch seafood, Schultz’s delivers a dining experience that’s both nostalgic and genuinely satisfying.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy traditional Maryland crab house fare in a setting that feels like home.
